Imagine

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
...
And the world will live as one

~ John Lennon ~

Lennon wrote these words and though there's no doubt about how nice the song is, I wonder is that what we really want? Being different is an integral part of human nature, if we were all the same what would be the difference between us and the millions of computers that we use. Again borrowing from Bono's song "we're one but we're not the same", I think describes us as a race.
peace and religion are subjective and to some extent conflict is required to keep our minds going. Without this we would just be droids walking around without and personality of our own.
Assume for a second that everyone in the world is "one" would we be able to appreciate it? Would we not question the ideas of the people around us and if we did would that not stir up argument and maybe even war (in the worst case). It isn't possible to be completely "one" with everyone on this planet, knowing our nature.
The Olympics were started as a measure to stop war. They're great for entertainment now, but we're kidding ourselves if we say that its helping us stop conflict. On or off the field, conflict is an integral part of humans.

high vs drunk

Wham! Its going, going, going and caught :(
This guy was a little high according to him, according to his friends he didn't know where his legs were. borrowing a line from Robbin Williams he says "if only i can find my legs, i can drive". So he gets into his car, with his friends, who for the record were equally high and decides to drive within the speed limits so the cops don't stop them. After driving for about 15 minutes this guy hits the first red and stops. Waiting, waiting, waiting for it to turn green, 1 minute passes, 2 minutes ... 5 minutes, so he turns back and goes isn't there something wrong with this light?
"yeah, looks like its broken", comes the reply.
blue, red lights from the back, a cop.
"what seems to be the problem officer?"
"your licence and reg. please, you've been standing at this light for how long?"
"almost 15 minutes now, looks like there's something wrong"
"yeah there does seem to be something wrong, but it ain't the light. you guys have been here for the last hour and a half!!!"

at first it seemed like a briliant plan but now on retrospect it wasn't such a good idea, so my question is this...
when u drink and drive u tend to drive like crazy, when u'r high u drive 15 in a 45 zone???? go figure.

On Annihilating Men

This, my dear friends is all I have to say in response to Krish's buggy comment.
And, for good measure, :P

A Zen thought...

The three questions of greatest concern are --
1. Is it attractive?
2. Is it amusing?
3. Does it know its place?

[Acharya, Nag] 4. Will it go away when I'm done with it?

One World! One Language!

Someone decided that computers should have a simple language, one that has conly two letters, 0 and 1. and now, no matter what computer, device we're using we know for a fact that with little practice we'll understand what its saying.
sadly due to the way humans came into existance this wasn't possible (imagine what that would be like?) 010010010100111101010101 instead of "hi, wanna grab a coffee"
should there be one language?
should this one language be on a district / state / national / world leve?
can we rely on technology like we see in star trek, etc. to understand anyone irrespective of their language? is it practical?
Is language the cause of some problems that we face today, political and otherwise?
